'Everyone called me Postman Pat'

'Everyone called me Postman Pat'

Thursday, 11 July 2024

Pat has been living in one of our extra care schemes for over 10 years.

She used to live with her daughter but after having an accident, her care circumstances changed. Living in our extra care scheme has meant that she has the support she needs to remain independent with regular care giver visits while having the opportunity to socialise with other residents.

Though she was hesitant to move into her current flat at first, she says it has been a lovely experience and is quite happy with her lovely garden view.

Pat has always enjoyed being helpful and keeping busy; in her own words, she always finds ways to make herself useful.

She tells us that, when it was easier to move around, she loved helping the care givers and other B3Living colleagues by posting brochures and leaflets to other customers. Every day she would ask if there was anything to post:

“Everyone called me Postman Pat”.

Now, she continues to stay active in different ways by taking part in the weekly exercise class, calling bingo, taking charge of making hot drinks during coffee morning, and knitting whenever she can.

At B3Living, our Independent Living team offer a range of support for our customers to help improve their lives. This could include day services, a cleaner, help with shopping or additional care support. We will check that all benefits available are in place, look for activities to help with social inclusion and eliminate social isolation, and much more.
